I’ve been a member
of The Cafe Society
for 20 years now,
occasionally The President.
It started for me
as a result
of me unconsciously knowing
that I needed to
create myself
a new reality.
Traditional Methods for Change
had not proven effective.
I woke up one morning,
petrified that my life
had boiled down to me,
sitting stunned on a stool
across from my silent spouse,
her smoking cigarettes on the couch,
picking her night-time boogers,
and storing them
on that fine line
between the filter
and the tobacco.
Read that last sentence again.
I wish I was kidding.
I realized that I myself
was on that fine line,
but between Life and Death.
Tracy Chapman’s fine line:
LEAVE TODAY, OR LIVE AND DIE THIS WAY
would not leave my head.
I jumped in my truck,
drove to a coffee shop
in the next town,
and arrived ALIVE!
It was the beginning
of a local community for me,
through which I’ve started businesses,
I’ve restored homes,
I’ve traveled with,
I’ve borrowed money from,
I’ve loaned money to,
I’ve laughed ’til I cried,
and cried ’til I’ve laughed.
SISTER LOUISA was born & baptized into this community.
I had to get my NO-ASS
out of THAT dark house
and Live!!!
Of course,
it’s not the same for everyone,
but if you are stuck
watching boogers cake-up on a Camel,
LEAVE!!!
